Attendance

Please confirm your attendance between 4 and 20 April 2023 in AIMS >> Student Services/Alumni Services >> Confirmation of Commencement Attendance.

No. Attendance at the Commencement is optional. Those who do not attend the Commencement can still graduate according to the graduation dates in the Academic Calendar and collect their award certificate.

Graduates who are unable to attend the Commencement in person may choose to participate virtually by uploading a portrait via AIMS no later than 11:59 pm on 20 April 2023 (Thursday). The personalized graduation slide with the touch-up portrait, graduate’s name and award information will be presented on screen at the ceremony.

Any requests made after 20 April 2023 will not be entertained.

A personalized graduation slide with the graduate’s name, award information and a touch-up photo with virtual academic gown will be presented on screen at the Commencement.

No, late requests for attending the Commencement will normally not accepted.

Each Commencement session lasts for about one hour. If a graduate is late, he/she may miss the chance to go on stage at the ceremony.

The College/School Commencement sessions are scheduled according to degree types and majors of study. Graduates should attend the appropriate session of the academic award only.

Tickets & Seating Arrangement

Each graduate can only obtain a maximum of 2 guest tickets.

The e-Ticket is non-transferable and admits the registered graduate or guest only. If the guest(s) to attend the ceremony are changed, please update the guest(s)’ information via AIMS at least four working days before the Commencement day.

Graduates in full academic regalia will be seated in a separate area for award presentation while seats for guest ticket holders are available on a first-come-first-served basis. In the event that guest seats in the hall are fully occupied, guests ticket holders will be directed to watch the live broadcast in the designated venues at the same building (i.e., Lau Ming Wai Academic Building).

Yes, we can make special arrangements for guests and graduates with special needs. Please indicate your special request when confirming attendance via AIMS .

Children aged 2 or above are required to have an e-Ticket for admission. They are welcome in principle but should be accompanied by an adult. In case a child causes any disturbance, he/she should be brought outside the venue.

Academic Dress

Graduates are necessary to wear an academic dress for participating in the ceremony in person. If you attend the event virtually, it is not necessary to put an academic dress on. However, if you need a set of academic dress for taking graduation photos or other personal use, please follow the instructions and approach the approved vendors for the academic dress rental service.

The academic dress can be purchased at the outlets of the University's service supplier. Please contact the following Supplier directly:

Yes, graduate can authorize a person to pick up the academic dress on his/her behalf. He/she should register online in advance and inform the representative of the rental procedures. Please contact the suppliers for details if necessary.

Graduates can request courier delivery service provided by SF Express while registering via the supplier's online system. Extra delivery surcharges will be levied subject to the courier's policy on delivery to overseas addresses. Please contact the following Supplier for more details:

No. Honour cords are not for sale. Only graduates who are awarded First Class honour in a bachelor’s degree or Distinction in an associate degree will receive an honor cord from the University.

For taught programmes, Tick Your Gown Limited accepts the rental fee and deposit in cash, by bank transfer, FPS, WeChat Pay and Alipay.

For research programmes, the rental fee and deposit should be paid in cash in Hong Kong Dollars for the on-site collection of academic dress at the Victoria Uniform’s outlets. It also accepts FPS and BOC Pay.

No, the extended rental period is counted on a weekly basis. It will be counted as a 7-day period even if you return the academic dress one day later.

Venue & Transportation

Parking areas are not open to the public during the Commencement period. Graduates and guests are suggested to use public transport to commute to CityU on the days of Commencement.
